About the Department

The Wooster Township Fire Department has proudly served the community since 1940. From a small team of nine firefighters with one engine, we have grown into a modern department staffed by both full-time and volunteer members.

Today, our firefighters and EMTs respond to over 1,000 calls each year, providing fire protection, rescue, and emergency medical services. Learn more about our history, our leadership, and the men and women who dedicate themselves to protecting Wooster Township and surrounding areas.

Reflective Address Signs

Reflective address signs help emergency crews locate your home quickly when every second counts. They’re available from Wooster Township Fire & Rescue for a $15 donation or free to those in need, and can be made at the station while you wait.

Smoke Alarms

Working smoke alarms improve your chance of surviving a home fire. Wooster Township Fire provides alarms for free to those in need, with installation help available. Remember—“Change your clock, change your battery!” and test alarms regularly.

Dry Hydrants

Dry hydrants provide year-round access to ponds and lakes for firefighting. Since 1985, Wooster Township Fire has installed over 30 across the district, improving response times and lowering insurance rates. Contact us to see if your water source qualifies.

Knox Box

A Knox Box gives firefighters secure key access during emergencies, preventing property damage and saving valuable time. It allows faster entry, reduces risks, and helps minimize smoke, fire, and water damage.

Fire Prevention & Education

Preventing fires before they start is one of our most important responsibilities. Our department offers:

  • School Programs – fire safety lessons for children, including Get Low and Go and Exit Drills in the Home.
  • Home Safety Inspections – free visits to identify fire hazards.
  • Business Training – fire extinguisher and suppression programs for employees.
  • Community Resources – smoke alarm distribution, reflective address signs, and more.

We believe an educated community is a safer community. Explore our Fire Prevention page to access resources, downloadable brochures, and safety programs for your family, business, or organization.

Our Team

Our department is comprised of the Fire Chief, two Assistant Chiefs, three Captains, four Lieutenants, and our Firefighter/EMTs. Every member is trained as both a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician.

We maintain a roster of 25–30 volunteers and 8 full-time career members. Volunteers help cover shifts during the week and weekends, and all members are expected to respond to fire calls when available.
