Enhancing Public Safety and Enriching Community Engagement

A Capital Campaign Supporting the New Wooster Township Fire Station & Community Center

The Wooster Township Fire Department, alongside the Wooster Township Trustees and the Wooster Township Fire & Rescue Association, is launching a capital campaign to build a new fire station and community center at 838 Heyl Road in Wooster Township, Ohio.

This project is a long-term investment in the safety, growth, and future of the community. The current fire station, built in 1958, no longer meets the operational demands of modern emergency services. Aging infrastructure, overcrowding, limited training space, and inefficient apparatus bays have created challenges that directly impact emergency response capabilities.

The proposed facility will provide a modern fire station designed for rapid response, firefighter safety, and long-term operational efficiency while also creating a dedicated community training and education center for residents and local organizations.

Most importantly, this project will significantly improve emergency response coverage throughout Wooster Township. Studies show the new Heyl Road location can reach approximately 90% of the Township within six minutes, compared to only 60% coverage from the current station — including improved service to Triway Local Schools and surrounding residential areas.

Beyond emergency services, the project will serve as a lasting community asset with safe, durable infrastructure designed to support Wooster Township for the next 50+ years.

Why Wooster Township Needs This Project Now

  • Current station built in 1958 with outdated design, overcrowding, and structural limitations.
  • Flooding and foundation concerns along with aging mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Undersized kitchen, training room, and living quarters no longer meet modern staffing demands.
  • Double and triple-deep apparatus bays require constant vehicle reshuffling, delaying emergency response times.

How the New Station Improves Public Safety

  • 90% of Wooster Township will be reachable within 6 minutes from the new Heyl Road location, compared to only 60% from the current station.
  • Faster response times for more than 400 emergency calls annually within Wooster Township.
  • Eliminates blocked apparatus and vehicle reshuffling so emergency vehicles can leave immediately during critical incidents.

What the New Station & Community Center Will Provide

  • A modern fire station designed to support rapid emergency response and firefighter health.
  • A community training and education center with seating for 75+ participants and a separate public entrance.
  • Safe, durable infrastructure designed to serve the community for the next 50+ years.
  • A long-term investment in both public safety and community engagement.
  • All of this without placing additional tax burden on local taxpayers.
